inflateablefilth asked: I keep seeing allistic people say we should let them speak for themselves but they all seem to be high-functioning allistic people. Some of them even stim! We care about the allistic people who are low functioning, the ones who don't stim or even enjoy textures! They don't understand how easy they have it, some allistic people have to live in a world where they like showers!

This is exactly what I was thinking about the last anon that I answered. These are people who are just a touch allistic, you know, like maybe they sometimes get the urge to talk to strangers in public or are mildly insensitive to stimuli. If we could understand what the really disabled allistics were saying, I’m sure they would be appalled by the actions of these so called “allistic activists!”

Anonymous asked: Allism Speaks is a DISGUSTING organization! You spread so much misinformation and lies about the DIFFERENCE of allism, and your attempts to cure us would only kill us and replace us with 'normal' people! Allism is far from this terrible disorder you make it out to be, and you barely even touch on our uniqueness-for instance, the high rates of straight cisgenderedness in allistics. On behalf of the allism rights movement, I demand you stop fearmongering IMMEDIATELY!

I bet your one of those ‘high-functioning allistics,’ aren’t you. You don’t understand what it’s like to deal with an allistic sister who will never, ever be able to have a normal life. Allism Speaks is doing hard work to raise awareness of this tragedy. Some allistics actually would welcome cures so they can fit in, you know!

[OOC: lol this is sooo cathartic.]

More then 9 in 10 people is afflicted with allism, and despite what some idealists believe, this rate has more or less remained steady.

Traits include:

  • Lack of empathy, especially towards people with different communication styles
  • A belief that how your brain works is…

I know, it’s so sad that they’ll never get to experience these quintessential life experiences :( :( :(

sparklyeevee asked: I am a 20 year old college student, and in most ways fairly normal. I flap to express happiness, don't make excessive eye contact, and just generally know how to behave myself. However, I sometimes find myself seeking out novel stimuli, desiring to initiate social contact (although usually only with familiar people), and echoing the excitement or sadness of people close to me. Should I seek a diagnosis of allism? What kind of services are available for adults with my symptoms?

You know, you are not as alone as you might think. There is more and more recognition of people who realize at an older age that they are mildly allistic. In fact, some even believe that important historical figures may have had a hint of allism.

Unfortunately, there are not as many resources for adults with allism. Psychologists are often hesitant to diagnose people past puberty with it. I suggest examining whether or not these allistic tendencies are disruptive to you or others in your life. A therapist may be able to help you redirect these into socially acceptable channels. For instance, learning to transfer emotional echoing into understandable stimming. If it doesn’t bother you too much, then there’s no need to pursue such things!

sistercrow asked: Hi, I read somewhere that drinking baby formula at a very young age can cause allism in young children. I found this fact shocking because my younger brother was lactose intolerant in his infancy and was fed with formula and not long after he started to show signs of allism. In fact, I know many people who were given formula as infants and almost immediately started exhibiting signs of allism. I just wanted to help get the word out that baby formula causes allism so we can stop this epidemic!

Wow! This is really shocking, thanks for sharing.

PREVENT ALLISM: DON’T FEED YOUR CHILD BABY FORMULA.

harrycryirk asked: Under terminology-important note, you said that in the AS universe allism is neurotypical, not autism. I'm fairly certain that's backwards, unless you were using AS to talk about Autism Speaks, which would then make that sentence inconsistent with the rest of the tumblr, where AS is the initialism for Allism Speaks.

Whoopsadaisy, I think what I meant there was neuroatypical.

“Hey, want to hang out sometime?”

-My allistic brother. Most of the time, you can’t even tell he’s not normal! Sometimes, though, he says these things in public and I feel so embarrassed to be around him. Please reblog if you want to cure allism for good. <3 <3 <3

Why I made this blog

Perhaps you have been wondering why I, a normal young adult, have such an interest in the peculiarities of allism. In fact, it is because my family has been deeply affected by my allistic little sister.

S was diagnosed at a young age as severely allistic. It was quite a shock; my parents noticed very early that she seemed to be overly interactive and demanding of attention, though it was her abnormally early speech that alerted us that something was wrong. Now she is fifteen years old and struggles to function in everyday life. She can’t interact with others at all without becoming severely affected by their emotions to the point of becoming uncontrollable, and we have trouble communicating with her, because she talks a lot but is barely comprehensible. She’s disruptive in public, makes a lot of noise and touches people in upsetting ways, and we don’t think she’ll ever be able to participate as a normal member of society.

My hope is that by writing for Allism Speaks, I can bring awareness to my sister’s condition and look for ways to cure the strange behaviors and mental limitations of allistic people in our world.
